Student Services Officer

Job Description

The Student Services Officer is responsible for undertaking a range of activities and project work for the College's student recruitment and admissions activities. To provide guidance to students, parents and trainers over a wide range of matters, including students’ personal problems, learning difficulties and special requirements with accordance with the College’s Procedures and policies.

Required Responsibilities:

The Student Services Officer is to be the student contact person and to support the needs of students and provide advice where possible or else refer students to appropriate services in the community in accordance with the College’s Policies and Procedures.

  • Undertaking project work to plan, develop and coordinate new and continuing initiatives to assist in the recruitment of students and widening participation activities.

  • Answering student enquiries, listening to student complaints, concerns and difficulties arising at the college or outside the college.

  • Maintain student records, preparing files, providing fee payment information etc..

  • Provide student induction

  • Referring students to appropriate agencies and services where required.

  • Following up with students who have been referred to agencies and services to ensure they were appropriate and effective.

  • Providing assistance and advice to prospective students including the management of enquiries to ensure a successful recruitment outcome.

  • Compile and maintain a list of referral services in the local community near to the college.

  • Reporting to their manager on activity each week.

  • Implement the access and equity policy

  • Any other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Studies/ Training Manager, CEO or any other Department Heads.

  • Follow RTO procedures and policies

  • Any other works which are related to administration and not specified in this document

Relationships and Roles

Internal /External:

  • The Student Services Officer will receive general direction and report to the Director of Studies/ Training Manager.

  • The position will be required to work with other staff.

  • Extensive liaison will also be required with current and potential students and external parties.

Selection Criteria

Preferred qualifications:

  • It is preferred that the Student Services Officer will have suitable experience and / or qualifications in dealing with students, providing advice and making decisions about referral of students to other agencies or people where appropriate

  • Professional development must be available to enable maintenance and development of the currency of their qualifications and experience.
